Day 5 - 23 Nov 2011 - Bobbi Brown (Metallic) Long Wear Cream Shadow

Helooowww....

I know..I know...
I've been missing for more than a week and anyone reading this blog must have started to question whether I've gone MIA as usual and leave this blog abandoned.

No, I didn't, and I don't plan to do so.
It's just, last week wasn't exactly my greatest week, as I was down with cold, cough, and sore-throat. The antibiotic prescribed cured them but causing new problem : stomach disorder. For 5 days long, I was having problems with my "output". Let's just say, they have turned into liquids rather than normal solid-y form.

Yaiks...I know...

Ok, enough about nasty stuff. Let's go to beautiful stuffs.

Since I was not in a good shape, I passed the whole week sporting looks that are not worthy to mention. And this week hasn't been exactly better. I've got 2 decent enough looks, but I only managed to snap one. So, here it is, nude-y look featuring cream eyeshadow from Bobbi Brown :

Complete Look
Yeah I know it looks a bit similar to the Day 2 look in which I used MAC Paint Pot.
But if you look closer, you'll notice that I don't use any darker shadow to define creases, and there are sparkles in this look, resulting from the Black Pearl, one of Bobbi Brown's Metallic Longwear Creamshadow that I pat on top of the Ballet Pink from Bobbi's original Longwear Creamshadow.

Black Pearl is a purple-y and sheer in finish, but it also has metallic sparkles in it. On its own, Black Pearl can be a bit grayish, but it's great to put on top of any shadow just to amp it up a little bit, especially if you've got a date say on Friday night and you want to look more posh but not too much. Ballet Pink is a pink-y, subtle flesh-toned cream shadow, perfect if you want to freshen up your eyes with just a hint of sheer glow. Both are long wear, meaning these cream shadows will stay on your lids all day long and beyond, until you take them off with waterproof makeup remover. I'm not kidding : these bad girls stay put, they do not crease, they do not lose their pigmentation. They should be named Eternal Wear Cream Shadow.

Ok the last line was just kidding...

Anyway, these cream shadows are also easy to put on. I find that using fingers give better result rather than brush, AFTER I splurged with buying Bobbi's Cream Shadow Brush. At least that's the case for me. The brush did not give smoother result, and it somehow would not retain its original shape and density after cleaned after 1st use. Perhaps I've been using wrong techniques, and wrong cleanser. I haven't used the brush for quite some time lately. Maybe I'll give it another shot next week.

What is your plan for the coming weekend? I just dodged and saved myself from a possibility to work over the weekend, but it made me having to come to office very early on coming Monday. Hmm...I never like Monday, not to mention having to come in early. But I guess that's better than to work on Saturday and Sunday, don't you think?

Alrite...have a great weekend then, and see you (hopefully!) on Monday ;)

Day 4 - 14 Nov 2011 - Maybelline Eye Studio Quad Eyeshadow in New York Nights

Phewww...that's a long title...

Well hello there :)
Yeah I know I cheated a bit by skipping the previous 2 days, which happened to be weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Reason was I was so busy with personal errands that required me to walk several hours under direct sun so I wasn't really up to putting impressive eye looks. I simply put on moisturizer, sunblock, two way cake powder, and light brushes of blush. Although on Sunday I put on some Bobbi Brown Metallic Long wear cream shadow, I didn't feel it was decent enough to be featured here. So yeah...

Sadly, today I woke up with sores and aching muscles all over my body. Perhaps because of the extensive walking I did in the previous 2 days. So I wasn't feeling too excited about making up my face. Also, I had trouble picking which clothes to be worn (don't we all...the worst was it's Monday too...*sigh*). I'm going to a fashion show tonight (got free invitations from Fashionese Daily) so I should be feeling excited. Problem is the dresscode is "You and Culture". Freely translated, I would just go for some simple dress with batik shawl or scarf. But the 2 batik shawls I have are both too long and I can't find matching dress for the colors. I ended up throwing on a beige blazer, brown tank top and brown embroidered skirt which patterns resemble batik pattern. Plus a statement necklace.

Since the fashion show will be held during night time, I wanted to look a bit sophisticated, which translated into smokey eyes look for me. Yeah I know last Friday I already featured smokey eyes, but please spare me ok...Like I said I was not feeling well this morning and I didn't have much time to make impressive smokey eyes look, so I went with the quickest shade : Grey. (grey again...*sigh*)

This time I used the Maybelline Eye Studio Quad Eyeshadow in New York Nights shade. I'm sorry to not providing the link, I think Maybelline has discontinued it and replaced with new similar product but different packaging (and perhaps formula too). You can try to replace it with this Maybelline Eye Studio Color Plush in Sapphire Siren 20, the only type that has a grey (or black?) color among its 4 colors.

So, I used the dark grey one in the New York Nights quad. I don't put picture here since I forgot to snapshot it, and I don't want to use picture I found in the internet due to possibility of copyright issue.
I only use single color the grey on my whole lower lids. Actually I planned to pat on some Bobbi's Metallic creamshadow in Black Pearl, but eventually I didn't, because I don't want to put too much sparks on the look, and left it plain simple dark grey.

Have a look...

Complete Look
Yeah I know it is very similar from the last Friday's look when I used the Benefit Creaseless Creamshadow in Strut. But if you look at the lids closely, Strut is more sheeny, and gives a more metallic look (not to mention the lasting power and creaseless feat), while Maybelline has more sheer look and would not look like in the above pictures without the super performing Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion underneath. On some other budget-friendly eyeshadows, UDPP transforms them into vibrant colored long lasting non creasing shadows. On Maybelline, the result is just so-so, if not standard. It just helps the lasting power and non-creasing. Reason why I've not touched the quad for a long long time. Actually I think it's almost, if not yet already, expired. But I just don't have the heart to throw it away yet. Don't do this, really, it's not healthy for your eyelids and skins around eyes, especially if you have sensitive eyes and skins. I'm quite lucky my eyes and skin are quite cooperative *crossing fingers*.

So, I'm actually excited about tonight's fashion show. Maybe I'll snap some photos and share them here tomorrow, or in coming few days. Won't promise, though :p It's just I'm starting to feeling more and more unwell, like I'm going to catch cold or sore throat. I just hope I will stay quite well tonight to enjoy the show...

See you tomorrow :)

Day 3 - 11 Nov 2011 - Benefit Creaseless Creamshadow in Strut

What's up? :)

It's almost dark outside, 5.39 PM, rainy season's kicking in. But today was a sun shining bright day! Hot weather outside coupled by burning sun rays...phewww...I was literally dragging my butts crossing back from the shopping mall after lunch, trying to pose as posh as possible wearing high heels that I really wanted to kick off if not for the sole reason they made my posture better. And sexier. HA!

So, on uncertain weathers like this, you just want some reliable stuffs that will brighten up your days. Like, eyeshadow that won't wear off or crease or lose its vibrant colors after hours and hot temperatures and sweats and oily lids. Something like....Benefit Creaseless Creamshadow.

These creamshadows are really little pot of magic, I tell you. They are buttery, easy to apply, they will stick around longer than some boyfriends (HA...HA...HA...). But when you want them gone, POOF! A cotton pad and few drops of waterproof make up removers, they're gone like your youth. *ouch*

Anyway... :D

It's Friday, and even though I don't have any date plans, I love to put on more makeup on Fridays. It just brings my mood higher and better. Applying makeup is like therapy session to me, and I don't let anything bother me. The telly is always off ( I don't like noises in the morning including telly's noises...yeah I'm not a morning person...) when I'm putting on my makeup before heading to office.

So today, I decided to do easy smokey eyes.
Then the Benefit Creaseless Creamshadow in Strut just strutted in (HA!). What a coincidence...A beautiful deep bluish silvery grey! Just about what I need to create eyes fierce enough to rule the world!

Few pats here and there, strokes with brushes up and down, voila!

Hey, my lids are both similar! :p

Complete Look

I added grey shadow for crease and along the lower lash line. This is the 1st time I wear shadow on lower lash line to office...Thanks God they didn't look too heavy :p Bobbi Brown's concealer was working perfectly, kicking away the dark circles to make my smokey eyes stand out, hoorraayyy! I love Bobbi Brown's cosmetics! :p

I don't know what happened with my hair :p
But, lookie! My lids decided to be similar to each other today! Yaayyyy... ;)
In case you haven't known, I have different eyelid right and left. The right one is heavily folded which makes eyeshadow applied is hard to be seen when looking straight ahead, while the left one is exactly the opposite. I used to dislike the left one, until I realized eyeshadows look perfect on the left lid. Yeah...there's always silver lining behind....whatever, I forgot the phrase :P

So today, turned to be happy day because I also found out that I won 2 tickets to a fashion show on this coming Jakarta Fashion Week! Yippieeee....I will get to see fashion show of Oscar Lawalata, one of the well-known young designers here in Indonesia :) Apparently the event is on this coming Monday 14 Nov, and the Fashionese Daily (www.fashionesedaily.com) who held the quiz just informed me at 5 PM that they had sent courier to send the invitations. I used office address (which is more reliable than my residence address) but problem is the mail room staffs had left office at 5 PM *sigh* I hope the invitations arrive on time and won't be lost during the weekend....*fingers crossed*

So, let's keep our hopes high, and have a great weekend, y'all ! *smooches*

Day 2 - 10 Nov 2011 - MAC Paint Pot in Painterly

Hey there!

Today I should be featuring Benefit's Strut, as I mentioned yesterday on Day 1's post.
But I felt 2 days in a row sporting smokey eyes is a bit too much, don't you think?
So I cheated a little bit, switched the position of the makeup in the box, and voila!

We have the MAC Paint Pot in Painterly instead :D

Paint Pot is one of MAC creamy eyeshadows collection. It features mostly earthy natural colors, except several new colors like Half Wild, Hyperviolet and Imaginary that are purple-y shades. And there's also one black option, the Blackground. Other than Painterly, I also have Blackground, so just wait for its turn to be featured here :)

Because of its earthy natural colors, most of Paint Pot are also great choices to use as base for eyeshadow. But the texture of Paint Pot is not as creamy as Benefit Creaseless Creamshadow, so it's a bit hard work to blend, and the result with powder eyeshadow on top of it is rather polished than sheer. But as a base it's pretty excellent, extending staying power of powder and compact eyeshadow up to 6-8 hours without creasing. You just have to carefully choose the color, as MAC Paint Pot is quite pigmented and works well as eyeshadow on its own.

I bought Painterly more than 1 year ago, a MUA at MAC in KLCC helped me choosing it. He made several suggestions on how to use it, including a nude look with black eyeliners, which I will feature here today :)

From the side

Painterly is a pinky fleshy tone Paint Pot. It looks more dusty pink on my lids because my face is more to yellow undertone. So after I applied Painterly, I dusted the pale pink highlight (top left in the palette) from Revlon quad to "neutralize" the pinky tone. It makes it less pinky, which is perfect, plus it adds a bit of polished look rather than boring and matt display. To add some more definition, I added the dark purple (lower right in the palette) from the same Revlon quad on my creases.

The nude eyes featured here are rather pin-up look than daily natural nude. I decided to put bold eyelines as to make my eyes look more "wow!". Without bold lines (and lots of mascara too), the nude look will appear too...flat.

Well, one warning : be very careful when creating cat-eyed eyelines. The first lines I drew were too long they looked like I was channeling Amy Winehouse's look, which would be inappropriate for a normal working day. I wouldn't mind to sport wide black liners like Amy did, but they are just not proper for working days. So I had to erase them, and that's where disaster began. I accidentally blinked, and the wet liners (due to makeup removers...) were "pasted" to my lower lashes areas, resulting in black spots all over my done and concealed under-eyes areas. Perfect...*sigh*

Removing and recreating the lines took almost extra 25 minutes. *HEAVY SIGH*

Finally I was able to get them right. Well...they are not perfectly symmetrical, and not as similar as I would want them to be, but...anyway...And I don't know why my right lid look a bit yellowish golden here haha...

Anyway, it's 4th day (or is it the 3rd day...?) I use the Borjouis Healthy Mix Serum Foundation in shade 52. So far, I like it very much. It's light on the skin, it's light coverage which is perfect for daily use, and it does not cause breakouts (so far...*crossing fingers). And I like the smell, it's fruity :) The result (after dusted Revlon loose powder) looks similar to when I wear Caring Colors compact two way cake, except the Healthy Mix feels so light on my skin like I'm wearing nothing :) I think I should make a separate post on it :)

So, here's the final look. Pardon for the dark shades under my right eye, the liner just went across :(

Day 2 - MAC Paint Pot in Painterly
Sorry if the lids are not very visible. Like most Asians, my lids are heavily folded inside :p

Day 1 - 09 Nov 2011 - Benefit Creaseless Creamshadow in Skinny Jeans

Hey!

So I made it for Day 1, yaayy!

Well, since it's first day, and it's working day, I tried to take it a notch lower. Not that I never came to office with dark smokey eyes before, but yeah...I think I should start simple, just to keep ideas in sufficient amount :D

So the basic idea is, I will use 1 main eyeshadow each day, and I will pick based on their locations in my eyeshadow organizer box (will take a pic and upload it next time). I have around 26 or more single and palette eyeshadows in the box, so they will last me around 1 month before I have to use the 1st one again. I decided to start in a direction from the upper left section, then moving horizontally to the right (there are 5-6 pieces in every line) before heading to second row.

And the lucky one this morning is the Benefit Creaseless Creamshadow in Skinny Jeans, the one sitting on the corner left top. I used it yesterday, but applied to much it cracked and I decided to postpone the post to today, where I managed to apply it better : in gradually built thin layers that resulted in smooth soft finish with medium intensity.

Whoa...it's like so sophisticated words I used above haha...

Anyway...

The Benefit Creaseless Creamshadow is cream eyeshadow that also functions as liner. They are long wear, waterproof, and won't crease on your eyelids, at least up to 8 hours or more in my case. They are so creamy they blend like butter, easily applied (fingers are better than brushes, I ended up too thick yesterday using brush), and they are available in beautiful colors. The "Skinny Jeans" I used today, is a beautiful pewter, it appears as golden greenish bronze, if that makes sense to you. I have another one that is "Strut", it's a bluish metallic grey, which will be making its appearance here tomorrow (oopss...spoiler :P )

So here's the pic of my eyes wearing Skinny Jeans :

Skinny Jeans on eyes

I added a bit of dark grey from Maybelline palette on the outer V and crease, just to add some more definition. On the browbone, as usual I use the highlight from Revlon palette.

Hope I can make it in a row too hehe...

See ya tomorrow! ;)

One Shadow, One Day

Haiyaaa....

Been gone for...3 months ?!?

Terribly sorry. It's not that I lost my passion in makeups, it's just that it's so lazy to write sometimes...(well lately most of the times...) and sometimes I woke up so late that I didn't have a proper look to feature here. Well at least looks that I don't think interesting enough to be featured. Or, the shots' quality is too bad that I lost my mood all the sudden.

Anyway...

So 2 weeks ago while staying at my bro's home, I watched "Julie and Julia". Movie about a modern day female, Julie Powell, who was so desperate of finding one thing she's good at, or she's passionate about. She loves cooking, and she is a fan of Julia Child, a chef who lived decades before her time. So one day Julie decided to make a personal challenge : she will cook all 524 recipes in Julia Child's cookbook in 365 days (that's average 1-2 recipes per day). Mind you, those are French cuisine recipes. Julie called this The Julie/Julia Project, and she wrote a blog about it. You can read more here.

And that gave the idea yesterday. Considering the numbers of eyeshadows I have (26 or more?), I could imitate the same idea, presenting one look per day that is themed on one of the eyeshadows I have. Perhaps a day of smokey blue eyes, or golden green on another day, and so on. Interesting isn't it? :)

So I decided to start today. But alas, I got too slow doing the work, and I applied too much when I should do layers to achieve nice smooth layers of colors. Instead, I got a bit cracky layers that I don't think decent enough to be featured. And I was running late, so I didn't have enough time to apply concealer. Well, enough said, the look today was not good enough. So I decided to start : Tomorrow.

I promise I will try to do my best to feature One Look per day. With 26 or something eyeshadows, I could have almost one month full of different colors everyday. Well some of them are in the same color family so perhaps would not differ much...and I might use 2 or 3 colors at the same time. But one color would be the primary color and stand out among the others.

Wish me luck :)

Eye Line Them Up!

Hiyaaa there!

It's been quite a while since my last post. But since I don't have many followers yet (only 1, actually hehe...Hello there Toscaberries !) I'm not really worried :p Not a good habit I know...

So today, what's cooking?

Have you ever heard of expression "Eyes are windows to your heart." ? Well, windows mostly have frames, don't they? For eyes, no reason we don't frame them too, right? Enter the one stuff that made Cleopatra's cat really jealous of her eyes : Eyeliner!

There are many types of eyeliner : Pencil, Liquid, Gel, Powder (in pressed form or even loose). I consider Kohl and wax types in pencil group. And with each their different form, they also have different ways of how to apply, which tool to use to apply perfectly, and how long they will stick around before smudging (yaiks...)

I'm not really an eyeliner collector. But without realizing, I've been hauling these stickies for quite many and just realized it when I took them all out and lined 'em up for this post. I have 1, 2, 3, 4.....oh well, I have 14 eyeliners in total. That is already excluding the 3 liquid ones I threw away after capturing their photo when I found out they were all drying up in their tiny bottles like puddle of mud in Sahara. And this post is not a tutorial for eyelining (save it for next time *fingers crossed*) , so let's just check them out and the swatches below :

List of items above :

1   - Oriflame - Eye Intensity - Chestnut Brown
2   - Revlon Beyond Natural - Defining Eye Pencil - 08 Plumberry
3   - The Body Shop - Eye Definer - 03 Taupe
4   - The Body Shop - Eye Definer - 09 Olive
5   - Shiseido - Eyeliner Pencil - 5 Violet
6   - Revlon - Eyeliner Pencil - 02 Brown

7   - MAC Powerpoint Eye Pencil - Engraved
8   - The BodyShop Liquid Eyeliner - 02 Dark Grey
9   - Oriflame - Eyeliner Stylo - Black
10 - Oriflame Very Me - Liquid Eyeliner - Grey , and Blue (connected by ClickIt connector)
11 - Mavala - Khol Kajal Pencil ("Brun")

I just realized as well while I was typing this, that I forgot to take shot of my Etude Liquid Eyeliner in Black as well. Maybe because I loath that eyeliner since 1st time I used it and it's just been sitting inside my makeup drawer, neglected, waiting to die (or dry up by itself which, alas, is taking far too long...) I bought it on an impulsive purchase, when the 1st time I hunted for liquid eyeliner. When applied, I immediately didn't like the brush (too soft, not pointy, flat) and the liquid texture (too liquid, takes forever to dry so I ended up with dark lines on my creases). The color is a good solid black though, but not waterproof. A liquid eyeliner that is NOT waterproof is as good as nothing. Mark that.

Anyway, what triggered me to do a post on eyeliner is that I finally bought the Maybelline's gel-eyeliner! After months looking for it without result, finally Maybelline included it in their stores here...I knew about it from Lisa Eldridge's video about her favourites highstreet and drugstore makeup. Among several items, she recommended this gel-liner. It started hitting some Maybelline's store here a month ago, but no tester was available until last Saturday one store provided the testers.

I tried both the testers of Black and Brown. And although black would've been best choice naturally, I decided to buy the brown one, simply because I fell for the beautiful shimmer apparent when it's applied. And I've had my MAC Fluidline Blacktrack that is only used up for half pot, adding another black gel-liner in my collection didn't seem necessary.

Colorwise, the black Maybelline gel-liner was as black as Blacktrack, but it appears more shimmered when rubbed after dried. Not that one would rub the lines on their lids, but it just appeared so when I swatched them and accidentally rubbed the Maybelline before it was completely dried. Blacktrack would be a bit shimmered too when rubbed after dried up on skin but the pic below just doesn't show it. It's also waterproof (won't smudge or budge when rubbed with plenty of water!), like all gel-liner you just need to wait a few seconds for it to be completely dried on your lids to ensure it to be fully waterproof. Texture is creamy as butter, very easy to apply. I think it's even more buttery like than Blacktrack, which reminds me of Benefit's Creaseless Cream shadow's texture.

1 - MAC Fluidline - Blacktrack
2 - Maybelline Eye Studio - Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner - 01 Black
3 - Maybelline Eye Studio - Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner - 02 Brown

Almost identical, no?

And did I mention about the eyeliner brush included? Main reason why I eventually decided it was really worth it was because of the brush. The brush is, surprisingly, of very good quality, one that matches eyeliner brush from high-end brand like MAC or even Bobbi Brown. If you plan to buy Bobbi's eyeliner brush, I suggest you save your money and buy this Maybelline gel - eyeliner instead. It applies the gel-liner smoothly, sharply, you can even have a nicely curved cat-eyes using it. And after cleaned, the bristles remain as soft as new. For a price at IDR 89,000 per piece, it's a golden bargain. You won't find better, yet.

Fun part, I brought the gel-liner to office yesterday, and few girls at office tried it. 3 of them actually decided to buy it and asked me to help buy it for them :) Aaahh I'm so happy when I can do so : make some girl believe that certain makeup item is fabulous on her and she finally agrees with me and decides to buy it :)
Although I don't get any profit from doing it, I just feel satisfied and happy in my heart :)

So, do you "buy" it? :)

So, tempted already? :)
